print pageElion offers users six months of free computer protection services

Together with F-Secure, one of the world’s leading virus protection providers, Elion has introduced a new complete computer protection service, which allows for the free use of virus protection and a firewall, as well as, protection against spyware and spam for six months along with automatic renewal. After the six-month period, the price of the service is 29 kroons per month.

According to Aivo Jürgenson, Elion Information Security Manager, an estimated 60-80% of home computers are unprotected against viruses and rapidly increasing computer crimes. “The spread of viruses and other malware, as well as cyber attacks, also threaten the bank accounts of Estonian Internet banking customers, and these threats can slow down computers and Internet connections, and use unprotected computers as interim platforms for attacking some other service or institution,” said Jürgenson. “Effective combating of computer crime requires the cooperation of computer users, service providers and the state. Therefore, Elion together with the other principal partners of the Look at World Foundation and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, has initiated the “Computer Protection 2009” project, the objective of which is to make Estonia the country with the world’s securest information society. Six month’s of free computer protection services is one of the many activities, which are planned for the achievement of this objective.”

Both private and business clients can avail themselves of the complete virus protection software offered by F-Secure, one of the world’s leading providers of virus protection software. The service consists of six components.

The firewall and Internet Shield protect the computer against unauthorized incoming or outgoing connections. It is not possible to access the computer from the outside without the user’s approval, or to initiate outgoing connection by the software in the computer without authorization. Working on a background regime, the Virus Protection monitors the activities of the programs in the computer, and blocks programs that may damage the operation of the computer from opening. The Spy Protection shields the computer against spyware, which monitors the use of the computer and the Internet without that the knowledge or approval of the user and forwards the gathered information through the Internet to the author of the spyware. Spam Control protects the computer against damaging effects of spam and helps to keep one’s mailbox clear. Parental Control allows parents to determine rules for computer use, for instance by designating available and prohibited websites. The reliability of the entire computer protection software is guaranteed by automatic updates. Every hour the virus descriptions and other services are updated automatically.

The use of the computer protection service is free to everyone for six months, and thereafter, the service costs 29 kroons per month per computer. There is no sign-up fee. The computer protection service is offered in Estonia at a discount price—since the service is offered based on application rental, instead of paying a large amount for a software license, the client pays a small amount each month for using the service. The client also has access to 24-hour Estonian-language technical support by phoning 800 9966 or by e-mail from tugi@elion.ee .
